I’ve been contacted by a long time reader of this project who was related to A. D. Hail, the author of today’s letter from the 16th Illinois. Mr. Hail survived the war and became a minister of the Gospel. He spent the vast majority of his life as a missionary in Japan, where he died in 1923. He is buried in Osaka.
Because of the internet, and Mr. Gordon’s follow up, our soldier from the 16th has a face to connect with the name.
